Virgin Blue Sydney to Uluru flights | New route from August 2010
Australian budget airline Virgin Blue is to offer Qantas some competition on flights to Ayers Rock-Uluru. Flights from Sydney are due to start in August 2010.
Flights to Ayers Rock-Uluru airport
Flights to Ayers Rock-Uluru airport in Australia’s Northern Territory tend to be relatively expensive. This is partly because it is so far from any major Australian cities, but mainly because only one airline – Qantas – flies there.
Virgin Blue to Uluru
This will change from 02 August 2010 – rival airline Virgin Blue has announced that this is when it will begin its own services to Uluru.
Daily service to Red Centre
Virgin Blue has unveiled plans to operate a daily service from Sydney to Uluru, and one way fares will initially start at $119 for those travelling carry-on only. That makes a return fare just $238.
Best Qantas fares
The best Qantas fares are currently $169 one way or $338 return – and these are special sale fares that have only just been announced. Not that they’ve been timed to coincide with the Virgin Blue announcement, of course.
Package holiday deals to Uluru
Of course, Uluru is often one of those destinations that is best packaged up with the international fare. This is particularly the case if you fly from the UK to Australia with Qantas – tagging on a side-trip to Uluru is generally surprisingly cheap in this scenario. But the Virgin Blue flights at least provide another option – and one that is worth looking into.
