Virgin Atlantic is taking on British Airways in its new winter flight sale. Virgin is now offering cheap flights to Australia on the London Heathrow to Sydney route for just £669. This is exactly the same price that British Airways is offering – so it’s a case of choosing which airline you prefer.

Perhaps more interestingly for travellers who prefer a bit more comfort and legroom on the long flight from London to Sydney, Virgin Atlantic is offering premium economy tickets to Australia for from £1,148.

The £669 economy tickets and £1,148 premium economy flight deals are available for departures between 16 April 2010 and 20 June 2010.
Cheap flights to Australia in Feburary and March 2010
For departures on other dates in 2010, prices are slightly higher. Between 9 February 2010 and 31 March 2010, the economy flights to Sydney cost from £888 and the premium economy flights from London Heathrow cost from £1367.
Virgin Atlantic flight sale to Australia in April 2010
Between 1 April 2010 and 15 April 2010, the flights cost £889 in economy and £1368 in premium economy.
