If you’re planning to visit Australia in 2011, now is about the time you should be starting to look for flights. However, I’d advise against buying yet – there simply aren’t that many great deals out there at the moment.

Most of the big airlines that fly to Australia – such as British Airways, Qantas, Emirates and Virgin Atlantic – aren’t offering particularly attractive prices on flights to Australia right now. But history suggests that a number of seat sales will be launched in the next few months for early bird bookings.

Many of the early bird sales for flights in the coming year tend to be launched in late summer and early autumn. Last year, Singapore Airlines launched a sale with flights to Perth and Sydney costing under £400 – easily the cheapest I’ve ever seen such tickets.
