There are no direct international flights to Hobart, Tasmania, which can put Australia’s smallest state a little off the travel map. Usually the best way to get to Hobart is to fly into Melbourne or Sydney and then get a connecting domestic flight.

Qantas currently has a flight sale on for departures to Australia from the UK. Between 16 April 2010 and 20 June 2010, the Australian airline is offering relatively low prices on economy class UK to Australia flights.

For those who really want to visit Tasmania, this means that prices for flights to Hobart start at £729 return. This is for departures from London Heathrow only, but departures from Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow are also available. These involve another connecting flight (operated by British Airways under a codeshare agreement), but again luggage is checked through all the way to Hobart.
