Want to travel to Bali and Australia? Well with the 2010 Air Asia flight sale from Perth to Denpasar, it may be cheaper to go to Australia before Indonesia rather than taking a stopover.
Stopover or side trip?
There are some destinations that are so cheap to fly to from Australia that it can work out cheaper to visit them as a side-trip from Australia rather than try and shoehorn them in as a stopover on the way.
UK to Bali flight routes
The Indonesian island of Bali is a classic example of this. There are no direct flights from the UK to Denpasar, the Balinese capital, and to include Bali as a stopover from London or Manchester a rather awkward route is required. It can be fine to include it on round the world tickets, but on a straight return it will generally involve a change of planes and a detour from the likes of Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore.
Perth to Bali – budget airline flights
If you really want to visit both Bali and Australia, therefore, it may work out cheaper to fly into Perth, Western Australia, and then take a cheap flight to Bali on a budget airline once you’re there. As an example of the prices you can expect, Air Asia is currently offering Perth to Denpasar flights for just AU$287 (approximately £169) return.

I found this deal on flights departing on 26 August 2010 and returning on 06 September 2010, but similar deals are available for other dates. As well as Air Asia, it’s also worth checking prices with other budget airlines such as Jetstar, Tiger Airways and Virgin Blue.
