New direct flights: Los Angeles to Melbourne with V Australia
Cheap flights from Los Angeles to Melbourne (direct)
An interesting new route has just been launched by fledgling trans-Pacific airline V Australia. A sister airline to Virgin America and Virgin Blue in Australia, V Australia has just started operating direct flights from Los Angeles to Melbourne. It is the only airline which flies this route without connecting through Sydney or Auckland, New Zealand.
This, of course, adds another route option for flying from the UK to Australia. It’s now possible to fly from the UK to Melbourne with just one change of plane. Of course, a Los Angeles stopover can easily be built in.
Book with travel agent
Because V Australia isn’t really aimed at British passengers, this option is best explored by going through a travel agent. Pricing with V Australia’s codeshare partners will not be opaque – largely because it will inevitably be cheaper to fly to Melbourne via Asia, and the prices for that route will be the ones shown.
V Australia codeshare agreements
London to: Perth > Melbourne > Sydney > Brisbane > Cairns > Darwin > Adelaide
Glasgow to: Perth > Melbourne > Sydney > Brisbane > Cairns > Darwin > Adelaide
Manchester to: Perth > Melbourne > Sydney > Brisbane > Cairns > Darwin > Adelaide
Birmingham to: Perth > Melbourne > Sydney > Brisbane > Cairns > Darwin > Adelaide
Newcastle to: Perth > Melbourne > Sydney > Brisbane > Cairns > Darwin > Adelaide
But the new V Australia route does open up a lot of options. It is part of the (more complex than it sounds) Virgin airline stable – which includes Virgin America, Virgin Blue, Pacific Blue, Polynesian Blue and Virgin Atlantic. V Australia also operates codeshare flights with Delta Airlines and Emirates.
Connecting airlines
It is also possible to connect to the V Australia Los Angeles to Melbourne flight with Continental Airlines, Northwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines. V Australia deems all three to be partner airlines.
Cost-effective option?
It’s worth stressing again that a UK to Melbourne flight using V Australia’s new Los Angeles to Melbourne route is highly unlikely to be the most cost-effective option. If you’re looking for cheap flights to Melbourne, go via Asia or the Middle East (the full list of stopover options can be checked here). But if you really want a Los Angeles stopover, and really want to fly from Melbourne from there, the V Australia option may be worth investigating.
