The traditional cheap season for flights from London to Sydney is between mid-April and mid-June. And, while the sales have taken their time in coming for this period, the good deals are starting to appear.

Searching with Kayak for flight deals in May 2011 (using a departure date of May 04, and return date of May 25, but with a three day degree of flexibility either side for both dates), I found the following deals:

Ebookers: £701 return flight from London Heathrow to Sydney, via Hong Kong (flying with Cathay Pacific).
Expedia: £722 return flight from London Heathrow to Sydney, via Hong Kong (flying with Cathay Pacific, but also with 200 free Nectar points).
Etihad: £761 return flight from London Heathrow to Sydney, via Abu Dhabi.
Ebookers: £764 return flight from London Heathrow to Sydney, via Singapore (flying with Qantas).
Singapore Airlines: £767 return flight from London Heathrow to Sydney, via Singapore.
British Airways: £770 return flight from London Heathrow to Sydney, via Singapore

As you can see , there are plenty of sub-£800 options with a variety of airlines. If you’re looking to head to Australia in May, now is a good time to book, while the sales are still on, and the competition is keeping prices down.
