London to Sydney flights via Bangkok, Mumbai & Tokyo
How to arrange stopovers in Thailand, India and Japan for little more than a straight return ticket from the UK to Australia.
British Airways and Qantas routes
When flying with British Airways or Qantas (or some codeshare combination of the two), the usual route is to go via Singapore or Hong Kong. However, other routes are available with the two airlines should you wish to stop off somewhere else.
Cost of stopovers
With the Singapore and Hong Kong flights, it usually costs very little extra to build a stopover into the flight. It can cost slightly more with other destinations, but not too much more.
Stopovers in Mumbai, Tokyo & Bangkok
The other three destinations you can visit on one-stop flights between the UK and Australia with Qantas and British Airways are Bangkok in Thailand, Mumbai in India and Tokyo in Japan. The flights aren’t as frequent, so require more planning, but it’s perfectly possible to stop in one city on the way out and another on the way back without it costing too much extra.
Round the world flight experts
These sorts of itineraries are usually best discussed with an expert travel agent. The ones specialising in round the world flights are generally the best bet. Prices vary wildly depending on season and whether either airline has a special sale on, but generally it’s possible to stop at a different city in both directions for under £1,000.
Alternative flight options
If you’re just looking for a straight return to Australia, try using the Cheapflight search box at the top of the page, or the Skyscanner box on the right.
