A domestic airline price war appears to have broken out in Australia. Virgin Blue has announced a sale, and now rival low cost carrier Jetstar is offering up to 40% off its standard fares.
AU$35 flight sale
This means that domestic flights are available for as little as AU$35 – and it is unquestionably cheaper to buy these separately rather than as a package with your international flight ticket.
Melbourne to Sydney and Launceston
The AU$35 seats are available for one way flights on two routes – Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Launceston in Tasmania (and vice versa) and Melbourne (Avalon) to Sydney.
Launceston flight dates
The Melbourne to Launceston $35 flights are available between 13 April 2010 and 27 May 2010, then 20 July 2010 to 30 August 2010 and 05 October 2010 to 09 December 2010.
Jetstar Avalon to Sydney flights
Jetstar’s $35 Melbourne (Avalon) to Sydney flights are available between 20 July 2010 and 14 September 2010.
Sale terms and conditions
All of these fares are for one way tickets only, and do not include credit card charges (vary depending on card) or checked-in baggage. They need to be booked before the end of the Jetstar flight sale – 15 March 2010.
