Flights to Sydney, Australia in 2011
The best flight prices from London to Sydney with Etihad, Emirates, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Singapore Airlines and Air Canada.
Cheapest flights to Australia
Generally, the cheapest time of the year for flights to Australia is between April and June. But if you’re looking for a bargain flight to Sydney between April and June 2011, is now the right time to book?
Flights to Sydney, Australia | Kayak search
Well, one way of testing out whether airlines are offering the best prices is to search with Kayak, picking random dates within the traditionally cheap period. I used the dates of 03 May 2011 to 24 May, with three days’ flexibility either side, searching for flights from London to Sydney.
Flights to Sydney, Australia | Etihad special offer
The best price Kayak could find was a London to Sydney flight with Etihad, flying via Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Returns were available for from £733 when booked through Ebookers or Expedia rather than direct with the airline. This is unquestionably a good price, and it’s arguably worth taking if you’re planning to fly to Australia at that time of year. However, for this period in 2010, sub-£700 flights were available with a number of airlines, so it may be worth waiting.
Flights to Sydney, Australia | Cathay Pacific & Thai Airways
The good thing about Kayak, however, is that it allows you compare prices by airline. The main part of the screen lists the deals in price order, but the side panel allows you to check and uncheck boxes that show the best deals by airline.
In this example, the other airlines don’t fare too well in comparison to the Etihad deal. You can pretty much discount Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong for £1,793, South African Airways via Johannesburg for £2,571 and Thai Airways via Bangkok for £4,368.
Flights to Sydney, Australia | Emirates & Qantas
Other airlines have more reasonable deals – although not as good as the Etihad offer. Return flights from London Gatwick to Sydney are available with Emirates for £833, when booked through Opodo. Alternatively you can fly via Singapore and Melbourne with Qantas for £849 or via Kuala Lumpur with Malaysia Airlines for £872.
Flights to Sydney, Australia | BA & Virgin
Slightly more expensive are flights from London to Sydney via Singapore with British Airways (£880) or via Hong Kong with Virgin Atlantic. Other sub- £1,000 return flights are available via Singapore with Singapore Airlines (£976) and via Toronto and Vancouver with Air Canada (£999).
