But I would offer the following advice to anyone planning to fly to Australia and then take internal flights.

1. Speak to a travel agent regarding packages that include internal flights. They are often thrown into round-the-world tickets, and can often be added to straight returns at a very low cost. This is particularly the case if travelling with Qantas. Specialist travel agents know best here and can save you a lot of money.

3. Compare which of the above is cheapest and go for whichever suits you best.
4. If choosing domestic budget airlines, remember that checking in luggage can add substantial sums to the ticket cost. If it’s possible to fly hand luggage only you will benefit financially.
5. Fly into Perth first if you are planning to visit Western Australia as part of your trip. It’s closest, and international flights there are cheaper
