Cheap flights to Australia 2011
Seats on flights from London to Sydney and Melbourne in April and May 2011 are now on sale. Etihad has deals starting at £721 return in economy class.
How far in advance do airlines sell flights?
Airlines generally start selling flights 11 to 12 months in advance. To look for deals any further ahead is a largely pointless exercise.
Cheapest time to fly to Australia
Now that it is June, however, a few good deals for flights to Australia in the first few months of 2011 are starting to become available. This includes a few for the time of year that is traditionally cheapest to fly to Australia – post-Easter to mid-June.
Etihad flights to Sydney via Abu Dhabi
A case in point is one fare with Etihad that I found through Kayak’s Best Fares calendar. Leaving on 21 April 2011 and arriving back in the UK on 09 April 2011, Etihad is offering a flight from London Heathrow to Sydney – with a short stopover in Abu Dhabi – for just £734.
Melbourne flight offer 2011
A similar deal for London to Melbourne flights can be found using the same method and bought through Opodo. Leaving on 16 April 2011 and getting back on 08 May 2011, the Etihad flight costs £721.
Alternative travel dates
It’s worth bearing in mind that these deals are only the best that other Kayak users have found for those particular dates, and that similar prices are almost certain to be available for other dates around the same time.
Airline sales for 2011
It’s also worth bearing in mind, however, that better prices will become available nearer the time. No airlines have launched specialised sales targeted at this period yet – and they will do later this year/ early in 2011.
