Australia cheap flight tickets 2010: BA & Qantas | Melbourne, Darwin, Sydney & Singapore stopovers
For a complicated UK to Australia flight involving stopovers in Melbourne, Darwin, Sydney and Singapore, we found a great deal with Qantas and British Airways by booking through a travel agent.
Booking flights to Australia with a travel agent
As I have advocated before, if you are booking anything more complex than a straight return flight to Australia, it is worth consulting a travel agent.
Samoa, Tonga, Vietnam & New Zealand stopovers
I am currently planning out an incredibly awkward trip to Australia and New Zealand in April and May, and it will involve stopping over in destinations such as Samoa, Tonga and Vietnam, as well as various areas of Australia. To try and book this on my own and online would be madness – and I’d almost certainly end up paying more.
Travel deals to Uluru, Kakadu & Barossa Valley
For the second leg of the trip, my girlfriend is joining me. We are planning to drive up the centre of Australia, taking in sights such as the Barossa Valley wine region, Uluru/ Ayers Rock and Kakadu National Park. We also want to spend a couple of days visiting friends in Melbourne and Sydney, then stop over somewhere in Asia on the way home.
It’s not quite as complex as my own journey, but it’s still a bit of a brainache to plan without assistance. And we’ve ended up booking her flights with the ever-helpful Roundtheworldflights.com.
Manchester to Melbourne, Darwin, Sydney & Singapore
Essentially, we were looking at a series of flights. Firstly, a flight from Manchester to Melbourne (possibly switching planes at London Heathrow), then a separate flight from Darwin to Sydney after the big drive through central Australia. The last legs were from Sydney to Singapore and from Singapore back to Manchester – again with a possible connection in London.
Open jaw & internal flights
For this, we thought we would be looking at paying around £1,000, but our travel agent found a ticket for £784.50. That’s reasonable value for a straight return, but with the open jaw aspect, internal flight and Singapore stopover, that’s a superb deal.
Qantas and British Airways cheap tickets
The flights are all with Qantas, apart from the connections from Manchester to London Heathrow, which are with British Airways. The departure date is at the end of April, and she’ll get back at the beginning of June.
But the airlines and specific dates aren’t really the point here. The important thing is that a well-trained travel agent can save you serious money when planning out complex routes that include Australia – and it’s well worth picking up the phone to make the call.
